Vaginal Yeast Infection Home Remedies

The use of probiotics is very helpful for a yeast infection. The original article suggested using yogurt vaginally, while this is helpful, it is incredibly messy. Personally, I prefer to use Optiflora Probiotic. Its a tiny little pearl sized pill which can be inserted directly into the vagina to deliver healthy microflora (acidophillus and bifido bacteria). I would also suggest using it internally with the Optiflora Prebiotic (food for the good bacteria). I would not use the Prebiotic powder vaginally.

Other suggestions from the article which I do agree with....

- Garlic can help ward off yeast and provide instant relief to women who are suffering from a yeast infection. To try out this home remedy, insert a garlic clove into the vagina.
- Tea tree oil is believed to treat numerous health problems. It is no surprise that it is found to be a very effective home remedy for yeast infections. Apply a few drops of tea tree oil directly to the area affected by the infection, but stop use if it irritates the skin.
- Avoid foods which are high in sugar. Yeast thrives on sugar, so it can actually worsen the yeast infection. It is ideal to consume a diet which consists mostly of fruits and vegetables during this time.
- Apple cider vinegar is thought to be one of the effective yeast infection home remedies, but keep in mind that it will irritate the skin. Mixing one part apple cider vinegar to three parts water before applying it to the area affected by the yeast infection.

Remember that the vaginal area is incredibly sensitive. Use wise judgment before trying out any home remedies for yeast infections. If something sounds like it could irritate the skin, there’s a chance that it may. Also keep in mind that if the yeast infection does not clear up after a few days, it is ideal to see a gynecologist. Yeast infection symptoms can be very similar to those of other infection, such as bacterial vaginosis and STDs, so it is ideal to get diagnosed for sure.

P.S. chances are good that garlic and probiotics will also help with BV, I would also use cranberry juice (pure unsweetened or a cranberry-d-manose supplement) to make it difficult for pathogenic bacteria to adhere to the tissues. If there is any question as to what is really going on... get diagnosed. Once you know what you are dealing with, it is much easier to chose the appropriate remedy to address the problem. It eliminates the guess work. If for some reason antibiotics are necessary, be sure to supplement with a high quality probiotic during and after treatment to help re-establish healthy bacterial colonies and prevent candida (yeast) overgrowth. In my opinion, Optiflora is one of the best probiotics out there, guaranteed to deliver live bacteria to both the small and large intestines. Any oral liquid probiotic will not deliver live bacteria to the intestines. Not if your stomach is functioning properly anyway.
