Happy New Year!

Posted by Sister Zeus Thursday, December 31, 2009

Hello and Welcome! This photo was taken in the winter of 1995 while traveling around the country. Zeus was an amazing companion. He was my travel buddy, I took him with me everywhere, including a 5 month stint deep into Mexico. He was a beautiful wolf and malamute mix with the most amazing eyes and an incredible personality. He loved people... kids in particular loved him.

One of my favorite "Zeus Stories" is on one New Years eve, many years ago, Zeus and I were visiting my friend's house, she was having a party. There were lots of dogs, and lots of people. Early on in the evening when Zeus and I arrived, there was a little girl visiting, she had never met any of us before she had come with a friend. It turns out, being from the inner city, she was terrified of dogs. She was coping with my friend's dogs but not all that well, and when Zeus and I walked in with another smaller dog (about 70 lbs... smaller in the sense when compared to Zeus who was 150 lbs)... this little girl was up on the chair screaming!! Zeus totally freaked her out. She didn't know at the time, that he's like the gentle giant, not like the aggressive dogs she was used to.

Zeus who is totally mellow and so laid back, by the end of the night had befriended that little girl. She was laying all over him and telling everyone that he was hers and to go play with the other dogs. Zeus was my friend, travel companion and protector and I miss him greatly. I got him as a puppy when I began my personal journey of self exploration and coming to awareness about my fertility and an understanding of how my body worked.

That journey, which began in the early 1990's has led me to explore women's health, medicinal plants, and holistic health. That journey fired a passion within me to share what I was learning about which eventually led me to create my website which enabled me to reach so many more people. This is important information and I still feel strongly that women need to know about this. Being able to identify fertility each cycle and to understand how our bodies work is essential (in my opinion), but so lacking in our culture. This was the stuff I wished my mom knew about to tell me. The education I got in school was lacking. The things I was learning were blowing my mind. Since then, information is easier to come by. We have amazing books like A New View of a Woman's Body and  Taking Charge of Your Fertility, which have really made a lot of that knowledge available more easily accessible to the mainstream. But even still there's much more.

Later on I had the opportunity to learn about HPV and Cervical Dysplasia, as personal necessity drove me to educate myself about the condition and led to the holistic treatment of CIN II & III (moderate to severe cervical dysplasia) and the creation of an email support group for women who are facing cervical dysplasia, because at the time there was nothing on the internet I could find like it. These days there's more out there, but the one I started has a more holistic approach when talking about the condition.

Today, I'm finishing up a degree in holistic health, that's occupying most of my time, I don't really have time to update my website as I might like to, and because I'd like to keep in touch with other like minded women.... women who are interested in taking charge of their health and fertility... so I thought I'd do a newsletter. But I found, the time issue was causing me problems.... I could never seem to get the newsletter finished. I could start it, but finishing it to send out was really really hard. So, I thought I'd start the new year off with a blog! (which should eliminate that problem) Since the newsletter idea didn't work out quite the way I hoped, this may be a better avenue for me to explore and provide a better medium for me to share information with you all.

So welcome and I hope you'll visit often and take interest in the things I'd like to share! Please feel free to follow my blog and you can even subscribe to the RS feed to get updates. {Note this needs to be fixed, it's going to the template designer atm.When I figure out how to fix it, I'll delete this note.}

This is my first post, so I'm just getting my feet wet, and we will see where this leads from here! May 2010 be your best and brightest year thus far with many more wonderful years to come. Good health to you all!
